What to know before visiting the Kashi Vishwanath Temple in Varanasi.

About the temple

Kashi Vishwanath is one of the twelve Jyotirlingas and stands near the western bank of the Ganga in Varanasi.

Planning your darshan

Queues can be long in the early morning, on Mondays, during Shravan and on festival days. The temple trust publishes current timings, aarti schedules and any booking requirements — check them before your visit.

Items allowed

Rules on mobile phones, bags and offerings are set by the temple administration and may change. Carry the minimum and follow the instructions at the entry gates.

Combine with the ghats

Many pilgrims combine darshan with the evening Ganga Aarti at Dashashwamedh Ghat and a morning boat ride.
