Season, registration, trek options and packing tips for a Kedarnath yatra.

When the temple is open

Kedarnath is open seasonally, typically from late spring until around Diwali. Exact opening and closing dates are announced each year by the temple committee, so plan your travel only after the announcement.

Registration

Pilgrims to the Char Dham are required to register with the Uttarakhand government before travel. Keep a copy of your registration with you.

Reaching the temple

The final stretch is a trek from Gaurikund. Ponies, palkis and helicopter services operate subject to availability, weather and official booking processes.

What to pack

  • Warm layers and a rain jacket
  • Comfortable trekking shoes
  • Personal medicines and a basic first-aid kit
  • ID and registration documents

Health and safety

Kedarnath is at high altitude. Walk at a comfortable pace, stay hydrated, and consult a doctor before travel if you have a medical condition.
